Meet the band

Nathan Waterson (Piano) is Music Director at St. Joseph-Ogden High School, where he oversees all music ensembles and curricular courses grades 9-12. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois where he received a Bachelor of Music Education with a choral concentration. Though singing has been his primary focus, Mr. Waterson has been playing piano since early in his childhood. He also plays trombone, euphonium, and a variety of other instruments in his free time. Mr. Waterson grew up attending Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School, living in the small town of Roberts. He loves being a part of the St. Joseph community and is thrilled to be joining Logan in this adventure!

Bill Jean (Trumpet & Flugelhorn) is a retired music educator and trumpet player.  As a former band director at Catlin, Schlarman, St. Joseph-Ogden and Unity, he taught music in central Illinois for 35 years. His trumpet work in the area began with “Jim Foley & Stone Country”, “1959” and “The Has Beens” bands in the Danville area. Most recently as the lead trumpet player and part time arranger with the “Tons of Fun Band,” he performed at various festivals, fund raising events and Summerfest in Milwaukee.  Bill is currently a substitute teacher at St. Joseph Grade School, Middle School, and St. Joseph-Ogden High School. He still resides in St. Joseph with his wife, Suzanne, enjoying retirement, travel, and family.

Seth Anders (Saxophone & Flute) has been playing saxophone for over 30 years now. He’s had the joy of sharing music from Seattle to Ohio and in small towns like Homer to big cities like Chicago! He’s been on 5 albums from the bands Upshot, Dalton Halls Band, Cosmology and Dum Dum Kids. Locally he performs with 90’s Daughter and teaches every summer at First Gig Rock Camp for Kids.

Seth is a 1999 SJO graduate and had the pleasure of having Mr. Bill Jean as a teacher. He participated in theater and had the lead in the musical his Junior and Senior years. He moved to St. Joe in the middle of his Junior year and came from a competitive Marching band and very traditional music school. SJO and Mr. Jean taught Seth that music could be fun at SJO. He was able to stretch his solo chops trading solos with Mr. Jean at Pep Band games and loved it. SJO has a place in his heart since finishing his High School career there and meeting his wife. It plays a part in the musician his is today. Seth is proud to join Logan Allen as he raises money for the Fine Arts back in his second hometown!

Dr. Paul Mock (Guitar) is a frequent performer in the local C/U music scene as well as a music educator at C4A and Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. He can be seen playing with local funk band Haki n Dem, reggae band Ryan Byfield and Nuclei, and hosting the Wednesday night Jazz Jam every Wednesday at the Rose Bowl Tavern in Urbana.

Guido Esteves (Bass) has been a working professional musician/producer for over 25 years. Along with producing music in the studio and for live productions, Guido has been involved in teaching both privately and at First Gig Rock Camp where he serves as a director and co-creator. Recently he has taken a position at Danville Area Community College working in the music, production, recruitment, eSports, and marketing departments. Besides performing, Guido has had a very active career on the business side of the music industry booking shows and producing events with Portal Entertainment and Red Hot Productions, as well as serving on the board of the Danville Symphony. Guido can be seen playing bass with several bands including local favorites, 90’s Daughter. 

Daniel Traficante (Drums) is a senior at Mahomet-Seymour High School. He plays drums in their school’s Jazz band, Marching band, and Wind Ensemble. Daniel has been playing since 5th grade and plans on continuing to grow his expertise throughout college. After high school, he plans on attending the University of Illinois to study forensic sciences and crime scene investigation.

Aescton Slowikowski (Percussion) is a 2024 SJO Grad and played in the Marching band and concert band all four years of high school. Aescton will be attending Parkland College in the fall of 2024, as part of the Parkland Pathway to Illinois where he’ll pursue a degree in computer engineering.

Steve Meadows (Trombone) is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Urbana, IL. He plays solo shows and performs with several local jazz and rock bands. He’s done pit work for numerous productions. Companies include Illini Student Musicals (University of Illinois), Little Theatre on the Square, Millikin University, Nashville Repertory Theatre, Parkland College, Station Theatre. Steve holds a Masters of Music in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of Illinois. He teaches music at the Community Center for the Arts, Danville Area Community College, and Trinity Lutheran School. 

David “Dr. Dave” Hardy (Keys) has been performing around the Champaign-Urbana area since his grad student days starting around 2000. Raised with a classical piano background, he has played with Candy Foster & the Shades of Blue for about 10 years. Dr. Dave has also made guest appearances with many other well-known local bands, such as 90’s Daughter, Tons of Fun Band, and Sun Stereo, and most recently has made special appearances with the K-Tels and Ryan Byfield & Nuclei. Over the years, he has also performed in musicals at The Station Theatre, accompanied the choir at McKinley Presbyterian Church, and appeared many times at The Great Cover Up.

Suzy Goben (Background Vocalist) has been involved in the Danville local community theater for over the last 20 years and is thrilled to be doing something slightly out of her comfort zone. Having known Logan since meeting him at the First Gig Rock Camp when he was 9, ‘hitting the drums’— she and her husband Rich have followed him ever since! She is involved in Red Mask Players and DLO musical theater, and a few other theater groups over the years. Some of her favorite shows she has performed in are: The Play That Goes Wrong, August Osage County, Great American Trailer Park, Nunsense, AND 2 times performing in Mamma Mia. 

Lydia Campbell (Background Vocalist) lives right here in St. Joseph with her husband and two children. She hails from Southern Illinois, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music-Vocal Performance at SIUC, under the tutelage of Principal Metropolitan Opera Bass, Richard Best.  She has performed various opera and theater roles with The Southern Illinois Music Festival, Opera Theater St. Louis, The Champaign Urbana Theater Company, and Twin City Theater. She teaches private voice and beginning piano. On the band front, she has performed with Rodman Rail and currently sings with the Champaign-Urbana based Rockabilly band, Love Sign.
